How to Wire a Two Way Light Switch

A two way switch is used in a number of situations.  The most common being light switches at either end of a hallway or at the top and bottom of stairs.  The idea being that you can turn the light on or off using either switch.

Be aware that mains electricity is dangerous and can kill you.  Do not attempt to do any electrical work yourself if you are not competent.

The switches are wired up as in the below diagram.  Note that both switches in the diagram are in the up position and there is no path for the electricity to get to the light.  As such, the light is off.

Diagram 1 - Light is OFF

If you toggle switch SW1 to the down position you can see that there is now a path for the electricity to get to the light.  The light is now on.
Diagram 2 - Light is ON

If you now toggle switch SW2 to the down position as well we once again face the situation where there is no path for the electricity to get to the light.  The light is off again.

Diagram 3 - Light is OFF

If you toggle switch SW1 back up again there is once again a path for the electricity to get to the light.  The light is now on.

Clean Non Slip Vinyl Flooring

Lately we've all become accustomed to instant gratification, even when it comes to cleaning.  However, when it comes to cleaning certain things I still find that a bit of patience can make all the difference to the end result by simply allowing the cleaning product to soak and work it's magic.

We have a bathroom that is set up to be a complete wet area which makes the cleaning of it easier than other floors.  However, as it is a wet area the entire floor is covered in raised dimples that seem to collect dirt and soap scum.

I have tried all sorts of cleaning products from microfiber cloths to harsh liquid cleaners to clean the floor. Often the majority of the dirt was gone but there was always a grey shadow left behind.  Especially in the shower where we stand.

I started to become concerned at how I could possibly be damaging the floor with the amount of force that I was using to clean it.  That's when my Dad suggested a product called "Shower Power" which is a citrus based cleaner and a bit of patience.

Simply put, apply the cleaning solution and let it soak in to do it's job.

Step 1

Spray a generous amount of cleaning solution on the floor.  Be careful, the floor can become quite slippery.

Step 2

Gently move the cleaning solution around with a firm bristled brush.  I'm usually on my hands and knees by now to avoid slipping and falling over.  You are not trying to scrub the floor clean, you are just moving the solution around so that the solution coats the entire floor.

Wait 3 - 5 minutes.

Step 3

Gently scrub the floor with the firm bristled brush.  Again, you are not trying to clean the floor, you are simply moving any dirt that has loosened to allow the cleaning solution to penetrate into the dirt underneath.

Wait 3 - 5 minutes.

Step 4

Rinse the floor with clean water.
In our bathroom I just turn on the shower head and flush it all down the drain but a mop and bucket will also work.

You don't have to use Shower Power in order to get these results.  I have used a few cleaners with similar results.  It's all about letting the cleaner soak and do it's job.

How to Buy Songs for Ten Cents

I've had a reasonably large MP3 music selection for quite a few years now.  It started when MP3's first came out when I spent many hours ripping all of my CD's to MP3.  It continues today as I expand my collection with songs that I've purchased from various online music stores.

There are many places where you can illegally download music for free but these days the cost of music is so affordable that there is no reason why you shouldn't buy it.

By far the most popular place to purchase songs from is iTunes but they charge $1.29 USD per track.  Which, on the face of it isn't very expensive.  But when you're purchasing an entire album at $1.29 USD per track the total price can add up.

Recently I've found the following website :

MP3million.com

MP3million is an online store where you can get music for just $0.10 USD per song.  If you purchase an entire album the cost of the tracks can be as low as $0.08 USD per song.
